Clinical Chemistry and Biochemistry

Assist. Prof. Evgenija Homšak, PhD, EuSpLM

University of Maribor, Faculty of Medicine and University Medical Center Maribor, Department of Laboratory Diagnostics

Evgenija Homšak is head of the Laboratory for Hormone and Autoimmune Disease Diagnostics at the Department of Laboratory Diagnostics, University Medical Center Maribor, and head of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Maribor. Her research interests include autoimmunity and hormone diagnostics. She is also active in national (SZKKLM) and international (EFLM, IFCC) professional associations as chair or a member of various committees and working groups.

Assist. Prof. Aleš Jerin, PhD, EuSpLM

University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Biochemistry

Aleš Jerin is head of the Laboratory for Hormone and Tumor Marker Analysis at the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana. In addition to focusing on hormones and tumor markers, he is also involved in research on markers of inflammation and acute kidney injury and quality assurance in medical laboratories.

Prof. Damien Gruson, PhD, EuSpLM

Saint-Luc University Clinic, Brussels, Belgium

Damien Gruson is head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Saint-Luc University Clinic in Brussels and the coordinator of the “City Labs” project funded by FEDER. He is a member of the Division on Emerging Technology of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) and of the Board of Directors of the Belgian Thyroid Club.

Helena Podgornik is head of the Hematology Laboratory at the Department of Hematology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana, and head of the working group on laboratory hematology at the Slovenian Association for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine. She has participated in national and international projects on malignant blood neoplasms.

Pika Meško Brguljan, PhD, EuSpLM

University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik, Clinical Biochemistry and Hematology Department

Pika Meško Brguljan is head of the Clinical Biochemistry and Hematology Department at the University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik. She performs numerous prominent functions and tasks in professional and educational fields. She has actively participated in the activities of the Slovenian Association of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine for many years and is the president of the Slovenian Chamber of Laboratory Medicine. In the field of medical laboratory quality standards, she is also active in the international association EFLM, Slovenian Accreditation Board, and the Technical Committee of the Slovenian Institute for Standardization.

Prof. Katarina Trebušak Podkrajšek, PhD, EuSpLM, ErCLG

University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Medicine and University Medical Centre Ljubljana, University Children’s Hospital

Katarina Trebušak Podkrajšek heads the research-oriented Laboratory of Translational Medical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. She is also employed at the Clinical Institute for Special Laboratory Diagnostics at the University Children’s Hospital in Ljubljana, where she works on genetic diagnostics. She is involved in Slovenian and international professional associations, is an editor for the journals Genes and Frontiers in Genetics, and is chair of the Licensing and Education Committee of the Chamber of Laboratory Medicine in Slovenia.

Personalized Laboratory Medicine

Prof. Janja Marc, PhD, EuSpLM, ErCLG

University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Pharmacy and University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Biochemistry

Janja Marc is a professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana. She studies the molecular background of complex age-related diseases and looks for ways to personalize their treatment. She has published over 125 scientific papers. She was chair of the Licensing and Education Committee of ZLMS and chair of the RSC for Laboratory Diagnostics-Medical Biochemistry. She is a member of the National Commission for Patients' Rights. Since 2020, she has also been working at the Institute of Clinical Chemistry and Biochemistry, University Medical Centre Ljubljana.

Prof. Nataša Bogavac Stanojević, PhD

University of Belgrade, Faculty of Pharmacy, Serbi

Nataša Bogavac Stanojević is head of the Department of Medical Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade, Serbia. She is a member of the EFLM Task and Finish Group for Laboratory Diagnosis of Chronic Kidney Disease (TFG-CKD) and vice-chair of the COST Action (CA21147) of the European Network for the Optimization of Therapeutic Antibody Therapy in Chronic Inflammatory Diseases (ENOTTA).

Senior Assoc. Prof. Alenka Repše Fokter, PhD, MD

General Hospital Celje, Department of Pathology and Cytology

Alenka Repše Fokter is a pathologist and head of cytology at the Department of Pathology and Cytology at the General Hospital Celje. She is a member of the International Academy of Cytology and European Society of Pathology and an editor for Acta Cytologica.

Laboratory Microbiology

Molecular Microbiology at the Clinical Institute for Special Laboratory Diagnostics, University Children's Hospital, University Medical Centre Ljubljana. She is deputy head of the Laboratory of Respiratory Microbiology at the University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik. She is also head of the Commission for the Prevention and Control of Hospital-acquired Infections at the Ministry of Health.
